Before the Cathedrals, There Was Nature: The Story Behind Our Elements Collection

Most people know Kirsten Dexter for the cities. The Gothic arches of Barcelona. The iron balconies of Paris. The tile work of Sicily. And I love those pieces — they're the heart of our Signature Collection and the reason many of you found us in the first place.

But here's what people don't always realize: before I ever set foot in a European cathedral, I was a girl on a South Carolina beach, stringing shells onto fishing line. Nature came first. It's always been first.

I'm happiest when I'm outside and moving — on a tennis court, on the golf course, on a ski slope, walking the dog at low tide. That restless, active energy is as much a part of who I am as the travel. And for a long time, it didn't have its own place in my jewelry. The Elements Collection changed that.

Where the Elements Collection Comes From

Our Signature Collection is inspired by architecture — the things people built. The Elements Collection is inspired by what was here before any of that. Snow. Feathers. Wind. The natural world that architects have been borrowing from for centuries.

These pieces don't come from standing in front of a building with a sketchbook. They come from being in the middle of a moment — feeling the cold on my face, watching something float on the air, listening to the wind move through the trees. They're less about what I saw and more about what I felt.

Snowfall: An Aspen Morning

The Snowfall earrings were born on a ski trip to Aspen. We'd woken up to one of those perfect snowfalls — the kind where the flakes are big and slow and the whole mountain goes quiet. Before we hit the slopes, I stood outside and just watched it come down. The way the snow caught the light as it fell — shimmering, almost suspended — I couldn't stop thinking about it.

That image stayed with me long after we left Colorado. I wanted to capture that exact quality: the shimmer of snow drifting through cold morning light. The Snowfall earrings are crafted in 10K white gold with diamonds, and they do something beautiful — they catch and scatter light the way snowflakes do when the sun hits them at just the right angle. They're lightweight and luminous, and every time I put them on, I'm back on that mountain, breathing in cold air, ready to ski.

Plume: The Weight of a Feather

The Plume earrings came from a simpler moment — noticing how a feather moves. There's an effortlessness to it. It doesn't try to be graceful; it just is. I wanted to design an earring that had that same quality — something that felt like almost nothing when you put it on, but had real presence when someone looked at you.

The diamond-covered feather drops have a modern edge with their line stud backs, but the shape is pure nature. They move when you move. They're the kind of earring you put on in the morning and forget you're wearing — until someone asks you about them.

Two Sides of the Same Designer

I think of the Signature Collection and the Elements Collection as two sides of the same coin. One comes from travel and architecture. The other comes from nature and motion. But they're connected by the same impulse: I see something beautiful, I feel something, and I want to hold onto it.

The cities taught me about structure and geometry and the incredible things people can create. Nature taught me about lightness, movement, and letting a design breathe. I need both. And if you're anything like me — if you love a great museum but you'd rather be outside — you might need both too.
